And now for something a little more upbeat...

the front of the house. It's an older house, but very cute in a retro-sort of way.

partial view of the backyard. All that green is weed, not grass; but it's ours to cultivate!! And it's full sun, so perfect for a veggie garden. Maybe even some melons/squash. I plan on making a sizeable chunk of it green with some of our transplanted baby's tears and Corsican Mint. (Lovely stuff. When you touch it, it actually smells like chocolate mint! And nothing feels as good against bare feet as baby's tears.)

The other end of the fenced-in backyard. The little shed in the back is kind of old and rusty; we're going to ask the owner if we can do away with it and just keep the gardening tools in the garage.

We have a huge orange tree next to the house. Fresh-squeezed OJ every day! Now we just have to let our little Mexican lime tree find some roots nearby...

Our real estate agent, Madeleine, showing John the garden hose, as if he's never used one before. *snicker*

Side of the house. I'm not sure what kind of tree this is, but it might be citrus of a kind. Maybe even kumquat? The other side of the house, next to the orange tree, is swathed bountifully in rows of huge lavendar, rosemary and mint plants. I nearly died and went to herbalist's heaven when I saw it.

The living room. I dislike the tacked-on carpet immensely - I always prefer hardwood - but we'll do something about that when we move in.

I didn't get pictures of all the rooms - there's also a dining room, 2 extra bedrooms and an adorable 40s-retro-style kitchen - but this is one of the bedrooms.

Not house-related, but one of my jewelry projects that I was working on right after Christmas. I'm busy right now making a necklace/earring set for one of my friend's birthdays in April, but after that I'll be setting up an Etsy page to start selling pieces I've made. These are olive-green freshwater pearls on copper, in a bunch-of-grapes fashion. ^^

Yep, the fireplace works! :) We'll have to see how clean the flue is, but the real estate agent assured us it was working. It doesn't really get *that* cold on the bay area peninsula in winter, and we won't be using it anytime soon ...but it will be nice to have a fire next winter, for sure.

:) Don't worry! With the real estate market not set to improve anytime soon, it's going to be a good several years before house prices go up. And in the meantime, you can always rent. We actually talked the owner down in price, for our rent. ^^
