Bleach Plagiarism Abounds.

Holy hell, I am laughing my ass off at Nick Simmons (son of rocker Gene Simmons), who is responsible for blatantly plagiarizing Kubo Tite's Bleach manga. Like, tracing it.
He's editing his Wiki page about it, too. You can click on the IP address and see his name.
Too much shitty plagiarism goes on rampantly, not only in the entertainment industry but in fandom especially. Just yesterday I was wheedled by an annoying little fanbrat who wanted me to give the "thumbs up" for her to copypasta my Bleach UlquiHime lemon, "Lip Service", directly into her story. Verbatim.
Uh, no. Write a sequel, rewrite the whole damn scene in your own words, if you have to, but don't fucking copy my writing word for word. Seriously? That's just fucking lazy. You're not even trying.
ETA: Her rationale for doing this:
"My thought was this, 'Hmm...what if I put this story together with that one...WOW, THAT WAS AWESOME!'...and I thought it'd be neat to share it with others, ya know? My story idea would never have taken off if I didn't cut and paste and come up with something different, cool, and incredbily interesting.
Tell you what? What if I publish it..and if you REALLY HATE what I did, I'll take it down...the thing is, after awhile, fan-fics fall out of circulation as the newer stories throw the older ones farther and farther down the foodchain."
...Yeah, because copypasta'ing two different (already published) stories together that you didn't write is AWESOME, like how PEANUT BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE GOT THROWN TOGETHER THAT ONE TIME
AND MY STORY IS LOW ON THE FOODCHAIN ANYWAY, SO WHAT THE HELL AMIRITE???!!!!!????!!!!!
:D
Edit #2 for the Nick Simmons thing: Now people are posting shit on his DA account...

I love the internets.

Date: 2010-02-25 02:49 am (UTC)As to your experience.... *head desk* *head desk* *head desk* At least she had the decency to ask you? (D'oh!).
Blatant plagiarism hasn't happened to me yet although my first Sess/Rin story had several scenes lifted and then rewritten into another popular SessRin fic. :P The writer of the latter was a fan of mine on ff.net, but I never called her out on it... It was rewritten enough that I would have had to work to show how line for line of dialogue had been subtly altered but sequentially copied. And I don't like work. XD Someone translated one of my fics into Vietnamese once without asking me (I found it about a year later through Googling my name) but they did give me full credit and I was so damn flattered to be translated that I ended up posting a gracious thank you comment. :D

Date: 2010-02-25 03:46 am (UTC)I don't think I can actually do any good by arguing with someone like that about why she shouldn't do it, and what she should be doing instead. It seemed to go in one ear and out the other, so to speak.
Translating into another language is cool. I'd be immensely flattered if someone did that to one of my fics. :) With credit, of course.
