misoraBecause I thought there's not nearly enough UlquiHime musical love, and with the majesty that is chapter 341, I decided to make a fan soundtrack for my favorite Bleach OTP.

Ulquiorra lives in a desolate place. There are several choice phrases in this song that make me think of hollows and what life must be like in Hueco Mundo:
reinforced glass
empty pocket
they think it is all…
they think it’s soul
separate the leper
hungry ghosts
another imprint in borrowed clothes
03. silent spring
Orihime. The lyrics to this one are a bit non-sensical, but only because of the addition of the letter “b” to a few words, kind of reminiscent of Pig Latin. (Sounds just like some kind of silly made-up language that Orihime would speak to her closest confidantes.) “a shrewd bow to obey” makes me think of her initial subservience to Ulquiorra after he’s led her to Las Noches.

Ulquiorra. She confuses him, mystifies him, and most likely even infuriates him. Chapter 262, post-infamous-slap-that-was-heard-round-the-internet: “I will return in one hour. If you have not eaten by then, I will bind you and force you to eat. You can count on that.”

05. teardrop [lyrics]
Orihime. This song seems as though it’s about love and its protective power, and the fortitude of someone able to convey it. And if anyone believes more in the healing and strengthening power of love, it’s Orihime. Her heart is what makes her strong, and it drives Ulquiorra like an obsessed madman to find the root of that strength and what makes her tick.

06. butterfly caught [lyrics]
Ulquiorra. She’s like a butterfly underneath glass to him, and he is the curious, sometimes detached, sometimes recklessly determined keeper (running off to fight Ichigo after she slapped you, even though you just condemned Nnoitra for the same thing, hm, Number 4-san?). This song is great because it feels like it’s a freeform expression of his thoughts, centered on her, as though he’s a moth attracted to the brightest light in Hueco Mundo:

radiate
open lips keep smiling for me
07. dissolved girl [lyrics]
Orihime. We can see by chapter 278 in the manga that Ulquiorra is getting underneath her skin, as well. Is that concern for his well-being we can see in your eyes, after Grimmjow’s sealed him in a caja negacion, Hime? Interesting.

Ulquiorra.
Ichigo to Ulqui, manga chapter 341: “I can read your moves much easier, now. Whether it’s because I’ve become more like a hollow…or you’ve become more human… I don’t know.”
The realization that you’re changing, maybe even because you might be falling in love with someone, when you’re the fourth most powerful Espada in Aizen’s army, can hit you like a bomb being dropped—leaving you freshly wounded and dazed amongst the fallout.

Orihime. “All’s there to love; only love” –Orihime is only capable of love, not hate, and that is why this winter war is hurting her.
