It's NaNoWriMo month...but what am I doing, instead?

I could be working on my original fiction (which I've sorely neglected lately), but instead I choose to pick this month to do fanfiction. Because I have a heck of a lot to catch up on, and it's essentially going to be the word count equivalent of a small novel, I imagine.

Here's the list of what I'd like to accomplish by the end of this month (assuming we don't go on babymoon to Hawaii til December or even January, which is the plan for right now):

ATLA:

• The Penance Series - "Contrition" (pt.3) - ~17,000 words


• The Penance Series - "Catharsis" (pt.4) - ~12,000 words


• Lotus Resiliens, chapter 9 "solar sympathy, pt. 2" - ~10,000 words


• Lotus Resiliens, chapter 10 "a scent of flowers prevails" - ~8000 words


• Kingmaker (Z/K oneshot) - ~8000 words


WHR:

• Hieros Gamos, chapter 3 "The Drop" - ~10,000 words


• Il Bordello (oneshot) - ~8000 words


• Hieros Gamos, chapter 4 (Untitled) - ~8000 words

...That's approximately 81,000 words, folks.

And I guess if I have any time left after that, I'll make an effort to work on my original stuff...but I have the feeling I won't have a minute left to spare! ;____;

It's all good. I'll be happy even if I accomplish half of this work. What matters is that my fanfiction has been neglected for far too long, and it's a shame because I'm a meticulous plotter who's outlined nearly every chapter for every fic. ^^;;; All I gotta do is fill in the pages.



Just as a note, this was originally avocado_love's idea for updating her own fanfiction, and I'm simply borrowing it for my own writing purposes. :D She and I will be posting word counts and writing motivational snippets this entire month - so if you enjoy her work as well (and I know you do), go over to her journal and encourage!

You mean for the babymoon? I think we're planning on going to one of the smaller islands (Kauai, which I've been to before, but John hasn't) and spend about a week or week and a half or so just relaxing. Swimming, eating, sleeping...all those things we won't get to do that much after the baby arrives. ^^ Nothing too strenuous like scuba or hiking or anything.

Strangely, I have more free time these days - John does a lot of the housework - but what used to be my prime writing hours, at night, are kind of no more. I find myself needing to sleep so much, lately. ^^

lol. Anyway, I've read the third part yesterday, and I'm still blown away by how deep the conflicted emotions run between Zuko & Katara. I love how you portray Zuko's more gentle side (OMG, the spooning position), and yeah, it's a shame that both of them had to fight after the lovely smexy scene.

I'm so glad that you've decided to work on your on-going fanfics for NaNoWriMo month. It has been a long time coming, that Penance update!

Haha! If I can get part 4 done by the end of this month, I think that will stun everybody (especially since it took ~2 years inbetween parts 2 and 3. ^^;;;). I'll do my best!

Zuko and Katara are two of the most conflicted and complicated characters, ever. There's lots of deep and rich personality studies to do between both of them. I find it funny sometimes that Mike & Bryan decided to pair them both with two people (Aang and Mai) who are their complete opposites - relationships between people who are so wildly different rarely work out in the end in real life, and not without a ton of work - and all four of them really have so much growing up to do post-series, anyway.

Zuko is just a big softie, really. XD He has Ozai's temperament occasionally, but he's really got Ursa's heart.

Wow...I must say that I envy your prolific-ness. lol, I'm always intimidated by writers that are one, good and two, can write incredibly long pieces like you can. I am honestly impressed. And...intimidated.

I've got a ton of Zutara ideas floating around in my head, some of them AU, and a oneshot rolling around my head that is porn. All I need to do is get the guts to write it and post it in the zutarotica comm. Incidentally, it's an idea inspired by one of drisela's gorgeous drawings. <3

I am considering posting some fic ideas in my LJ, and bouncing them off of people and asking what they think. Although soon I plan on taking on a monster project of re-writing an entire season and a half of Avatar. It's going to be a colossal undertaking and I'm thinking "What have I gotten myself into?" It will be a labor of love, though. :3

And I've been up way too long. I hope you'll forgive me but I tend to leave long, rambling comments on people's journals at odd hours in the morning.

I have never heard of a "babymoon" but it sounds nice. Hope the little one you're expecting is growing well and healthy. Heh-I may be a CF person, but I am rather fond of babies and actually have a softspot for children. XD

Anyways, I'll shut up now and go to bed.

Haha, I guess my writing is prolific...it's just not very timely lately. ^^ I can flesh out a lot of scenes in a fic, but it takes me forever. I'd like to get faster at it, particularly if I'm going to tackle an original novel.

drisela is a great fount of inspiration, isn't she? :D I look forward to seeing the Zutarotica material when it's finished!

And a monster re-write like that is pretty impressive, too. I chose to do a re-imagining of the last half of S3 in one of my fics, and man that's taking me forever, too. But I hope to make some headway on it this month. :) I'll cross my fingers for both of us!

"Babymoon" is just a term that people use for their last "real" vacation before the baby arrives. After all, it's really hard to travel with a newborn. Plus, John and I didn't take a vacation last year, for some reason...so we really want to squeeze one in before the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy (mid-January). I'm glad you like (other peoples') babies! ^^ When they're that young, it's hard to say they're ill-behaved...they're just doing what babies do. Which is a whole lot of eating, sleeping, crying, and not much else. ^^
