Know what's frustrating, even at 13 weeks? Food cravings.

We have a metric TON of cookies in our house - Belgian chocolate-covered ones, Philipino shortbread cookies, coconut macaroons, you name it - courtesy of my brother's girlfriend. But am I craving sweets? Noooo.

Literally, all I want to eat is meat - turkey sandwiches, hamburgers, ruben sandwiches piled with corned beef and sauerkraut. :( I don't have any inclination to eat these cookies, and they're sitting in their tins collecting dust.

Oh, and root beer. All I want to drink lately is root beer. It's bizarre.

Maybe I should give the cookies away? I know my coworkers would eat them in the blink of an eye.

Looks like you're wanting some iron.

I know, right? But ironically (haha, "iron"ically) my prenatal vitamin has TONS of iron. And I'm not anemic, by any measure.

I take this as a sign that I'm right in being on Team Penis! *snicker*

well meat has ferritin which helps you process iron which vitamins don't so I can see it. Right now you're producing red blood cells for two, I think

Ahh, I see. I did not know that. Makes sense, then!

I like to think I know what I'm having, but the truth is we won't know for sure until another month from now. I can wait...I think. :)

Did she have a boy? I don't remember...

She had twins and one was a boy...I think, but she was a surrogate for her brother and his wife.

You're pregnant? I didn't know that!

I have a meat heavy recipe if you're interested (it's not too hard to make either), and it's probably great that you're craving 'real' food instead of sweets.

Either that or your baby has a little Sokka in him.

Haha, yep! I've kept it f-locked until just now because of waiting for the end of the 1st trimester. But now that I'm officially 13 weeks and in the clear, I figure why hide it? ;)

Yeah, I'm kind of glad I'm not craving 2am ice cream and cookies and that sort of thing. It's better to crave something with nutritional value. I'd totally be interested in the recipe! We're going out for chicken wings tonight...yumm! :D

oh god you have no idea how tempted I am to name it Sokka if it's a boy LOLOL

Oh yeah, and we hadn't added each other for a while. Congrats!

Yeah! Much agreed!

Oh, okay! Well it's called swiss steak. What you need is a really thick piece of round or chuck steak (I usually use chuck), a regular sized can of dices tomatoes, a little can of mushrooms. A little worcester sauce, flour, oil, and seasoning salt and pepper. Then I serve over Jasmine rice (the sweetness helps). It feeds about 4 people, or you can make it for less and just have delicious leftovers (if it's not strong enough just have it for lunch the next day).

Pour out a little flour and add pepper and seasoning salt. Coat the meat in the flour mixture. Sear the meat on both sides in enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan and add worcester sauce. Add the can of tomatoes and the can of drained mushrooms. Let simmer, stirring occasionally and turning once. You'll want to let it simmer for an hour or so (can go up to an hour and a half). You want it to cook to well done and then get tender again. About a half an hour before it's done start the rice in another pot. 15 minutes before it'll be done, cut it up into individual pieces and add the flour you used earlier with some water to make a gravy. (I put it in a jar, add hot water, and shake so there won't be any lumps). And that's just about it! :D It takes a while, but it's not too hard. Also, lots of meat. And good leftovers

I giggle each time I read your updates. Memories...Literally for weeks 19-28 we went to Black Angus, which was over 45 minutes away from our place at the time, for steak, baked potatoes, and steamed broccoli at least 3 times a week. I had to have it. And chicken teriyaki, turkey subs, trail mix, and Tim's Cascade BBQ potato chips.

You do realize of course that as soon as you get rid of the cookies, you will want them?
