Ultra-domestic post.

And now for something a little more upbeat...

the front of the house. It's an older house, but very cute in a retro-sort of way.

partial view of the backyard. All that green is weed, not grass; but it's ours to cultivate!! And it's full sun, so perfect for a veggie garden. Maybe even some melons/squash. I plan on making a sizeable chunk of it green with some of our transplanted baby's tears and Corsican Mint. (Lovely stuff. When you touch it, it actually smells like chocolate mint! And nothing feels as good against bare feet as baby's tears.)

The other end of the fenced-in backyard. The little shed in the back is kind of old and rusty; we're going to ask the owner if we can do away with it and just keep the gardening tools in the garage.

We have a huge orange tree next to the house. Fresh-squeezed OJ every day! Now we just have to let our little Mexican lime tree find some roots nearby...

Our real estate agent, Madeleine, showing John the garden hose, as if he's never used one before. *snicker*

Side of the house. I'm not sure what kind of tree this is, but it might be citrus of a kind. Maybe even kumquat? The other side of the house, next to the orange tree, is swathed bountifully in rows of huge lavendar, rosemary and mint plants. I nearly died and went to herbalist's heaven when I saw it.

The living room. I dislike the tacked-on carpet immensely - I always prefer hardwood - but we'll do something about that when we move in.

I didn't get pictures of all the rooms - there's also a dining room, 2 extra bedrooms and an adorable 40s-retro-style kitchen - but this is one of the bedrooms.

Not house-related, but one of my jewelry projects that I was working on right after Christmas. I'm busy right now making a necklace/earring set for one of my friend's birthdays in April, but after that I'll be setting up an Etsy page to start selling pieces I've made. These are olive-green freshwater pearls on copper, in a bunch-of-grapes fashion. ^^

Looking good! :D A bit of a fixer-upper, but that's true of any new house. ;)

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :D Yeah, it's definitely a fixer-upper type...it's an older house, and the owner is very old (early 90s) and doesn't do much in the way of maintenance. Fortunately the house has stood up pretty well despite its age!

We inspect it and get the keys on Sunday. So excited!!

:D Im so jelous of the hardwood floors and is that fireplace working? O_O Id love to have a home with a wood burning stove or fireplace. >_> ID even consider having a stove put in just so I could burn firewood XD *wibbles and wishes she could get a home*

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-19 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, the fireplace works! :) We'll have to see how clean the flue is, but the real estate agent assured us it was working. It doesn't really get *that* cold on the bay area peninsula in winter, and we won't be using it anytime soon ...but it will be nice to have a fire next winter, for sure.

:) Don't worry! With the real estate market not set to improve anytime soon, it's going to be a good several years before house prices go up. And in the meantime, you can always rent. We actually talked the owner down in price, for our rent. ^^

Those irises are really beautiful. And I am seriously envious of all the citrus, citrus doesn't grow that well in Oregon.

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
For some weird reason, even though CA is more of a desert climate than tropical, citrus grows *really* well here. John's parents have a lemon tree that has literally provided us bushels of lemons over the past couple of months. I end up taking them to work and giving them away to my coworkers because there's just too many of them for us to use.

That place is lovely!

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :) It's not brand-new but it's a charmer, that's for sure.

I'm so jealous of your new house! What a lovely backyard :D

Those earrings are lovely :)

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! The backyard was really the selling point for us. We love gardening, and having the space to do with as we please is exciting. And thanks for the comment about the earrings! I like them, but I'm always wondering if other people would want to wear such things, or if I'm just imagining they're attractive or something. ^^

[identity profile] miss-sassy.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I have dreams of big backyards, heh. Gardening is something I'd take up if I had the space. Specifically, I'd love to grow my own herbs and maybe some tomatoes.

lol I feel you on that. I make jewelry, but I never try to sell them because I'm not sure anyone would want what I make, heh. Your earrings are super pretty, though. I'm looking forward to seeing you link your Etsy ^_^ I just got a new job, so I have funds to spend :DDD

hee, such a California home. :3 Reminds me of my cousin's home in Burbank California (but yours has a waaaaaay nicer backyard and side yard.) beautiful place!

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Yeah, CA homes = old, ancient appliances, never remodeled, crappy air/ no AC / central heating. But the weather and a nice backyard kinda makes up for it, somewhat. ^^

Such a lovely home. That is just awesome XD

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe. Thank you! :) We're quite excited to move in!

Beautiful love nest! <3

What a sweet little place you found.
I hope you make many wonderful memories there. :)

Other things to note:
1. John is adorable from the back! XD
2. I <3 those earrings! GORGEOUS!

Thank you! :D

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-03-24 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I do like taking pictures of his butt. Is it obvious? XDD

I'm glad you like them!!! I'll make more with different colors/metals. Instead of selling them on Etsy, I'm tempted to just give them away to LJ peeps. ^^

Awesome place you two found! I'm in love with it. :o

And I agree with the poster above, John looks quite adorable from the back. ;)
