I didn't say anywhere in my comment that this movie is going to fail. I'm sure the kids who are growing up watching the Disney channel will love it. Okay, I really don't know that. It's a martial arts movie, I'm sure it'll do great among audiences. Probably attract the crowd that saw that movie with both Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Or it might fail. I don't know. That's not my point.
I only said "this casting is disappointing to me."
I don't know the karate kid that is casted for Aang, so I can't pass judgement on that. I'm actually happy they went with a martial artist. I figured they would for all the benders in this. Make the movie more genuine.
I'm shocked they didn't. That would've been a great draw to the movie.
And true, two roles is not enough to judge variety. But the one role that definitely should have gone to a minority went to a white girl instead. That's sad. (and wrong!)
I would hate if they made that cute little girl get a tan. I think it's sick for someone to suggest they get a tan, cuz they're KIDS, or at the least, they're young! They shouldn't be getting tans.
If they change the character in the movie to have always been a pale skinned kid, well that's just taking away from the character's unique look. And as you said, that is unfortunate.
I'm just bothered that they would deprive a future young minority actress (or martial artist) the chance of playing Katara. It's really disappointing.
