Bleach Plagiarism Abounds.

Holy hell, I am laughing my ass off at Nick Simmons (son of rocker Gene Simmons), who is responsible for blatantly plagiarizing Kubo Tite's Bleach manga. Like, tracing it.

He's editing his Wiki page about it, too. You can click on the IP address and see his name.

Too much shitty plagiarism goes on rampantly, not only in the entertainment industry but in fandom especially. Just yesterday I was wheedled by an annoying little fanbrat who wanted me to give the "thumbs up" for her to copypasta my Bleach UlquiHime lemon, "Lip Service", directly into her story. Verbatim.

Uh, no. Write a sequel, rewrite the whole damn scene in your own words, if you have to, but don't fucking copy my writing word for word. Seriously? That's just fucking lazy. You're not even trying.

ETA: Her rationale for doing this:

"My thought was this, 'Hmm...what if I put this story together with that one...WOW, THAT WAS AWESOME!'...and I thought it'd be neat to share it with others, ya know? My story idea would never have taken off if I didn't cut and paste and come up with something different, cool, and incredbily interesting.

Tell you what? What if I publish it..and if you REALLY HATE what I did, I'll take it down...the thing is, after awhile, fan-fics fall out of circulation as the newer stories throw the older ones farther and farther down the foodchain."

...Yeah, because copypasta'ing two different (already published) stories together that you didn't write is AWESOME, like how PEANUT BUTTER AND CHOCOLATE GOT THROWN TOGETHER THAT ONE TIME

AND MY STORY IS LOW ON THE FOODCHAIN ANYWAY, SO WHAT THE HELL AMIRITE???!!!!!????!!!!!

:D

Edit #2 for the Nick Simmons thing: Now people are posting shit on his DA account...

I love the internets.

...

There are not nearly enough desks for my face these days.

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
We are going to need pillows for our faces.

Or, desks with pillows would also suffice. :/

*shakes head* Whoever this person is trying to steal your work, really needs a hit with the cluebat. Feel free to point me at them, I have a nice one in my back pocket.

As for Nick Simmons... I have no words. *bleargh*

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
The Nick Simmons thing is the most entertaining thing I've seen all week, for sure. He apparently ripped off Hellsing, as well.

Oh, Bleach. What is it about this series that attracts wank?

[identity profile] sureasdawn.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
How could that dumbass not realize that copying panels out of two (actually I think the list includes some others also) of the most popular comics in the world was going to get noticed? FFFFFFFF

I don't know maybe it's the fact that Kubo builds up mountains of sexual tension between characters that never gets paid off. Bastard. I say pick your flavor it's all good, but don't try to cram it down anyone's throat. XD

[identity profile] sureasdawn.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh and BTW, you are not I repeat not in any way shape or form low on the foodchain. ILU BB!

XD

D'awww, thank you hun. :3

Internet -smack that girl....

[identity profile] tiddlywinks103.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just astonished at this point, that people don't know what plagiarizing is. I am constantly in my college classes, getting assigned essays and papers, where a teacher is STILL saying plagiarizing gets you a 0, and if you don't know what that is, go to the writing center. Like, how do you NOT know what it means to take someone's words and not credit or ask permission and put your name on it by now? I see it on every syllabus, yet teachers say they ALWAYS get people doing it without 'knowing'. How is that possible in this day and age?

Re: Internet -smack that girl....

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
I know, just - HOW? How does anyone think that that's how you write a story? By pasting stuff other people have written together? I would never do this to anyone's work, not in a million years, no matter how much I loved it.

[identity profile] manonlechat.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, Gawd. I'm equally appalled and entertained by this Bleach plagiarism reveal. I haven't even had time to read the new chapter yet. Just sent off my polite and concerned email to Radical Comics.

As to your experience.... *head desk* *head desk* *head desk* At least she had the decency to ask you? (D'oh!).

Blatant plagiarism hasn't happened to me yet although my first Sess/Rin story had several scenes lifted and then rewritten into another popular SessRin fic. :P The writer of the latter was a fan of mine on ff.net, but I never called her out on it... It was rewritten enough that I would have had to work to show how line for line of dialogue had been subtly altered but sequentially copied. And I don't like work. XD Someone translated one of my fics into Vietnamese once without asking me (I found it about a year later through Googling my name) but they did give me full credit and I was so damn flattered to be translated that I ended up posting a gracious thank you comment. :D

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, she had the decency to ask. But she wouldn't let it go, even when I laid the smackdown pretty much after the first PM. Then she removed me from her favorites list, I noticed.

I don't think I can actually do any good by arguing with someone like that about why she shouldn't do it, and what she should be doing instead. It seemed to go in one ear and out the other, so to speak.

Translating into another language is cool. I'd be immensely flattered if someone did that to one of my fics. :) With credit, of course.

[identity profile] manonlechat.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
The sad part is that the next time she probably won't ask before she plagiarizes.

[identity profile] infinitygoddess.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Just wait til the brat that copied you copies off some bigwig. Then she'd have no good excuse that would be held up in a court of law once her ass gets sued.

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. I'm not gonna do nuthin about it, but one of these days she will copy/plagiarize the wrong person, and then...she'll wish she learnt the lesson earlier. :/

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
The comic plagiarism was the biggest laugh I got all day, it is just made of So Much Fail.

The fanbrat is a whole other level of fail, but still pretty much just fail.

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
FAIL ALL AROUND THESE DAYS, I SAY. ^_______^

[identity profile] mscongeniality.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
To add to the humor, apparently Tite Kubo has commented via Twitter:

[identity profile] alexb49.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
lol wut

Either people have balls that weigh a megaton or are dumb as hell. What kind of cognitive dissonance gets you through saying that if you cut and paste something it becomes different?

Idiocracy is happening people.

YOU! GO! GO FORTH AND MAKE SMART BABIES!

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
LOLOLOLOL That reply alone was worth un-friends-locking this post. Good job, sir. XD

Excuse me, but I have to go now to MAKE SMURT BABIES TO SAVE TEH INTERNETS *hump hump hump*

All the dA spamming is all 4chan. Do not piss off 4chan. Why has no one learned this?

[identity profile] umbrellaknight.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
ಠ_ಠ PFFT! I don't think words can fully express how stupid that was.

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
IAWTC, sir.

:B

[identity profile] hervictory.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
...What is this I don't even. YOU JUST GOT THE WORDS OUT OF THE DICTIONARY ANYWAYS, SO THEY'RE FAIR GAME. :|

Yeah, the plagiarizing was just...obvious...to the point that...*brain dies before formulating an answer* Still, lol@Simmons for editing the wiki. Stay classy, guy.

[identity profile] misora.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
ACTUALLY I INVENTED THOSE WURDS, THEY DIDN'T EXIST BEFORE I THOUGHT THEM UP IN MY INCREDIBLY ORIGINAL HEADDD

...I haven't looked at the Wiki page lately, so I'm kinda curious to see whether he's changed it again...

[identity profile] manonlechat.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Turns out the Bleach plagiarizer/Gene Simmons scion is an Avatar fan (figures, don't it?)

*retches*

[identity profile] platedlizard.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
I've been watch the whole thing on Bleachness, wtf. Apparently no one caught it at ComicCon, likely because comic fans and manga fans don't usually go in the same circles, but still! It is so freaking obvious with Orihime and Kenpachi especially.

Apparently he ripped off Hellsing and a few online artists as well.

This is so juvenile, I ripped off stuff when I was 12 (sooo glad that FF.net didn't exist back then and I hadn't discovered USEnet). You'd expect someone as old as Nick to figure it out.

[identity profile] singingaway.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I just really don't get how someone could think they could get away with something so frickin obvious -_-

[identity profile] miss-sassy.livejournal.com 2010-02-25 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I was reading about this last night. I have no idea how he thought that pulling from such popular mangas wouldn't go unnoticed! I mean, if you're gonna do this, wouldn't you at least wanna grab from mangas that are virtually unknown?

[identity profile] mycha-miska.livejournal.com 2010-02-26 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
And now I have this god awful urge to go find the person who plagiarized someone's WHR story. It was blatant enough that I immediately started trying to remember who's story it was that was copied...

And now we see what happens when people don't learn to think for themselves. :P

[identity profile] vejibra.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
O_o OMG is.. just the work of Kudo Tite with colors DX. OMG -_-u .

Wrong, kid, very wrong DX.

[identity profile] drisela.livejournal.com 2010-02-27 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Fanbrat CANNOT be serious. ;(
I hope you educated her.
:)

[identity profile] amononline.livejournal.com 2010-03-02 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll take Fanbrat's story and incorporate it into one of my own!

Maybe with Simmons, imitation is the sincerest form of flatery.
