I have to say, despite my initial freakout (I tend not to think clearly when I'm first reading the chapter, and it takes a few more readings to fully grasp everything that's happening -- I'm just spaztastic like that), that I agree with a lot of what you've said. One of the first things that I just had to convince myself that this isn't the end of Ulqui with was the lack of backstory, because yes, Grimmjow had his with his Fraccion. Nnoitra had his, tossed in with Neliel, Dondochakka, Pesche, Szayel and Tesla. Ulquiorra's had a much larger influence on this series than either Grimmjow or Nnoitra have, so him without something like that is just... so terribly anti-climactic.

And yes, Kurosaki's far too honorable, too good of a person (I'm complimenting a character I hate -- the world's ending, dear) to be so merciless. Whatever that is, it isn't Ichigo at all. I can only assume that being in Hueco Mundo for an extended amount of time like this has affected Shirosaki in some way to make this happen. Just like how Chad's powers are heightened and developing with being in that place.

And, of course, there's the lesson Ulquiorra needs to learn here. For someone so curious about it, it's an awful abrupt "death" for him. One can only hope that either he is fighting back, or he's getting a little help from our one and only Inoue.

Though, for once, I'm going to be following something in one of Ulquiorra's Bleach Beat Collection songs: "That's what happens when you cling to hope, you set yourself up for despair." I'm not going to end up hoping for something, only to end up having whatever faith I had completely and utterly crushed. So until then, I'm going to be, unfortunately, assuming his death, despite everything I've already mentioned and all that I've accepted internally.

Yes, that means I'm punishing myself for a week, but it's for the character that pulled me into Bleach in the first place, so it's worth it, no matter what's in the next chapter.
